What is a Heat Pump?

A heat pump is an energy-efficient heating system that extracts warmth from the outside air or ground, amplifies it using electricity, and transfers it into your home. Unlike conventional boilers, it doesn’t rely on burning fossil fuels, making it a more sustainable heating solution with significantly lower carbon emissions.

Why Choose a Heat Pump?

Unlike traditional heating systems that generate heat by burning fuel, heat pumps simply move heat from one place to another—making them far more energy-efficient.

Here’s how it works:
For every 1 unit of electricity a heat pump uses, it can deliver 3 to 4 units of heat (300–400% efficiency). In contrast, even the most efficient gas or oil boilers can’t exceed 100% efficiency, meaning they produce less heat than the energy they consume.

This makes heat pumps a smarter, more sustainable choice for home heating.

Costs and Energy Savings

While a heat pump replaces your gas boiler, you’ll still need to pay for electricity to run it. To ensure you’re getting the best deal, visit our UK’s Cheapest Energy Provider page and let us find you the best deal available.
